A little over 6 months ago, I found out that my blood pressure was high. Got put on a medicine & went back for my check up after a while & the blood pressure was good. But, now my cholesterol was high. My doctor put me on a medicine for that. Not wanting to be filled with a bunch of medicine & this particular one, I can’t drink my beer…so, I decided to research “foods that help lower cholesterol” & started eating better. The list wasn’t as bad as I thought…a lot of seafood on there & that has always been one of my favorites. Just have to learn how to cook different things after falling in love with cooking at the cabin as you can see from my previous posts. Actually trying to change a lot. I have always loved sandwiches & have taken one for lunch everyday since elementary school with 3 meats, cheese, chips, & a sweet. The article said to cut out processed meats so I have now switched my sandwich to peanut butter & honey. Also swapped out the chips to baked ones & am having strawberries & grapes. I am also now eating Honey Nut Cheerios with a banana in it for breakfast instead of a sausage, egg, & cheese biscuit. It’s been kinda fun & makes you feel better knowing that you are trying. I am 55 years old now. Here is a list of things that help with cholesterol:
Salmon/fatty fish (mackerel, oysters, swordfish, trout, sole, squid, calamari, mussels, scallops, cod, crab, halibut, shrimp, tilapia, clams,)
Tuna fish
Peanut butter
Grapes
Bananas
Strawberries
Baked potatoes
Advacodos
Okra
Tomato’s
Black beans
Apples
Spinach
Olives
Eggplant
Wanted to tell you what I tried the other night & man it was good. I cooked some salmon in the skillet dusted with Dan-O’s Sea-soning (blue top) & squeezed fresh orange juice on it. It was so good, think I’m gonna do it again tonight with some black beans. Have you had to adjust your meals for cholesterol, if so, what are you trying & what’s good that I may not have found yet?
Til next time peeps…
